Republican Ted Gatsas swept the mayoral primary winning every ward with a total vote count of 5,377. His closest opponent, Alderman Mark Roy, even lost in his own Ward 1, and only 3,353 votes citywide. Manchester voters reduced the field of candidates down to 2 in the mayoral, aldermanic, school committee, and other ward office races.
Mayor Frank Guinta, who spent time at the Gatsas celebration following the election noted that primary municipal elections typically have low voter turnout, but that the turnout was slightly higher than he expected.
There were also contested races with more than 2 candidates for alderman and school committee throughout the city. The primary was to determine who will go on to the November election. Congratulations to the following Republicans for their wins on September 15:
Ward 2: Robert O'Sullivan will continue in his bid for Alderman
Ward 3: Joe Kelly Levasseur will continue in his bid for Alderman
Ward 4: John Castlelot will continue in his bid for School Committeeman
Ward 5: Norma Greer Champagne will continue her bid for School Committeeman
Ward 6: Will Infantine will continue his bid for Alderman
Ward 7: Daniel Pinard will continue his bid for School Board
Ward 10: Phil Greazzo will continue his bid for Alderman
Ward 12: Keith Hirschmann will continue his bid for Alderman
